Holi is one of Indias oldest and most joyous festivals, celebrating love, joy and the beauty of human relationships. According to Vedic tradition, Krishna, the loving incarnation of God, enjoyed this colorful game with his friends and devotees more than five thousand years ago.
Holi reminds us that happiness, playfulness and love all come from the same source. The throwing of colors symbolizes letting go of old grievances, forgiveness and a new beginning. At this time, social differences disappear and everyone can celebrate together, regardless of age, gender or origin.
During the ceremony, the colored powders are first offered to Krishna. According to tradition, this gives them spiritual significance and reminds the participants of the festival of their most beautiful qualities.
Red the color of love and devotion
Yellow symbolizes spiritual purity and wisdom
Blue represents Krishna and inner peace
Green the color of nature, harmony and renewal
Pink represents friendship, kindness and compassion
Colorful powders are a means to get rid of negative experiences and create space in our hearts for happiness and Krishna.
Holi also symbolizes that the Supreme accepts everyone and bestows spiritual happiness, be it male or female, young or old, rich or poor, of any nationality or situation in life.
As colors fill the space, they also fill the hearts with joy, liberation and positive energy. At the end of Holi, everyone returns home more colorful, smiling and hopefully with an experience that will remind them for a long time that life is worth celebrating with joy and an open heart.
