parallel lifeforms is a duo blending the sonic worlds of Scandinavian jazz and electronic music. The project was founded by Balázs Bank, percussionist and producer (alongside his musical work, he is a researcher in music signal processing and holds a PhD from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences), and Viola Okos, violinist and vocalist (singer-songwriter, formerly a member of Ethnofil/OddID, currently performing with Makám Quartet and Fuvalom).
Their music moves between deep, immersive soundscapes and driving momentum, where the repetitive, polyrhythmic layers of analog and digital synthesizers are counterpointed by improvised string and vocal lines, reflecting the interplay between constancy and change. Their sound is inspired by artists such as Bonobo, Portico Quartet, Avishai Cohen Trio, Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Hidden Orchestra, as well as the works of American minimalist composers.
